Maestro's Cold War 2 Multiplayer Saves Guide

Maestro's Cold War 2 now supports saving multiplayer games across the full 1949–1989 base-game span. The developer still recommends shorter scenarios for sessions that need a reasonable finish time, while larger options include the Grand Campaign and 1980–1989 Second Cold War. Pax Americana owners can also use the 1980–2001 Millennium multiplayer scenario.

Key points

  • Full-release multiplayer supports saves; older posts saying otherwise are outdated.
  • The USSR takes the first turn in multiplayer under the official rulebook.
  • Short scenarios remain the developer's recommended fit for live sessions.
  • Longer multiplayer scenarios were expanded in the August 2026 update.

SECTION 01

Current multiplayer support

The August 31 full-release announcement states that multiplayer covers the entire 1949–1989 base-game timeline and that multiplayer games can be saved. Steam also lists Online PvP. These current official statements supersede 2025 community discussions asking when a saving system would arrive.

The rulebook specifies that the USSR acts first in multiplayer. Because a turn represents one month and long campaigns can span decades, the save feature is essential for Grand Campaign play rather than a convenience for a single evening.

SECTION 02

Choose a scenario before choosing a schedule

For one-session play, start with a short scenario. For an ongoing match, agree in advance on save ownership, when to stop, which options and DLC are enabled, and which player will host the resumed session. The game announcement does not publish a platform-independent save-transfer procedure, so do not assume manual file sharing is required or supported.

The August update adds the Grand Campaign and the 1980–1989 Second Cold War to the multiplayer selection. Pax Americana adds Millennium from 1980–2001. A 1945 start requires Grandeur et Illusions in single-player scope, but the cited multiplayer announcement does not verify a 1945 multiplayer scenario, so this guide does not claim one.

SECTION 03

If a saved match will not resume

First confirm that both players are on the same current build and have the DLC and Workshop content used by the original session. Then retry from the in-game multiplayer load flow. If the failure persists, capture the scenario name, date reached, enabled options, host platform, and visible error before reporting it.

Do not use the old one-slot single-player workaround as multiplayer instructions. The 2025 developer advice to copy save files answered an earlier save-slot limitation; it is useful historical context, not evidence for the current multiplayer UI.
